Has anyone ever heard of Butler Lake? Located in Herkimer County? We've had a request here at work and I can't find any information on it. I knew if it existed someone on the forum would surely have heard of it. Many thanks.

Looks to be in Oswego County and not within the blue line.
Also doesn't appear to be much of a 'lake'. Looks more like a swamp. -
It's a small private lake near the West Canada Creek in the Wilmurt/Nobleboro area. Very much within the Adirondack Park, but otherwise not very remarkable.Comment

The Boys Club of Utica used to operate a camp there. My parents were active in square dancing and one of the square dance clubs they belonged to used to rent it out on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends in the mid-1960's. Though not technically in the Adirondacks, it was the first Adirondack "experience " I remember.
I think the Boys club sold it in the 1980's or 1990's to a real estate developer who sold lots around the lake. From Google satellite, it looks like the dock, mess hall and boat house are still there.
Maybe next time I'm in the area, I will try to visit it.Comment

lanceman - my parents used to go to those square dance weekends back in the 70s & 80s and I too remember it quite well. After doing an extensive search the reason the buildings are in such great shape is that in 2010 the Bruderhof Community bought the 650 acres. They are a religious organization that practices communal living. Google them sometimeComment

Carl - I responded to your private message before I saw your post. I am trying to remember the name of the square dance club my parents belonged to. It was based in Clinton, NY.
I am pleasantly surprised that the square dance weekends survived the 1960's!Comment
