    Bicycle parking at Heart Lake

I'm putting together a plan for a 3 day easy bike tour on the roads around the High Peaks for sometime this year, and thought Mt. Jo might be a fun stop along the way. Then I got to wondering about parking. I don't mind paying to park, but then I wondered if they would let a bicycle come in and park, or if they're more car focused.

    Good question.

Seems that, if nothing else, leaving the bike somewhere just beyond that main area would be easier to do, since it could easily be taken a bit off the edge of the road and put by/behind a tree, which is not going to work with a car.

I want to say there is a bike rack near the High Peaks Info Center but I'm not 100% certain on this. In any case, Heart Lake is private property, so you may want to be sure the ADK is ok with you locking a bike in the woods there before doing it. I'd suggest calling the HPIC and asking them directly: (518) 523-3441

Also, if you were to lock your bike at Meadows Lane (where that road splits off from Loj Rd) and start walking towards the Loj, you can access the Heart Lake trail network pretty quickly without having to walk the road the full way to the entrance booth. There's a trail that crosses the road just south of the bridge over the West Branch Ausable River. Mt. Jo would be a 3.4 mile round trip hike if you did it this way.

Thank you both very much. On state land I just hide my bike or park it in the open in more popular parking areas and don't worry about it, as it's 27 years old, mildly rusty and decrepit looking, and very large, but since it was private land I didn't know what to do. DSettahr, thank you for the detailed information. I'll call the number before I go.

I biked to Meadow Lane from , hiked over Van Hoev-n-back, then down to the Loj for Mt. Jo, around Heart Lake and a swim. No recollection of where I locked my bike at the lodge, but if it had been a problem, I would have noted it. I also would have noted if I had to pay to lock it there, I'm cheap.

Thank you, that's good to know. It sounds like you hit all the high spots (or at least several of them) while you were there.
