free winter camping at meadows Lane

Hi,

I am wondering if we can winter camp at the meadows Lane ? Are they accessible ?
Otherwise do you have recommandation for free winter camp not too far (10-15min car) from Lake Placid ?

The sites at South Meadows don't ever close to camping, but it's a seasonal road and in the winter it's closed and blocked to motor vehicles. So you'd be walking in to the sites from Adirondack Loj Road. It's about a 0.2 mile walk into the first sites (those closest to Loj Road).

Also, keep in mind that those sites are all technically in the Eastern High Peaks, so no campfires are permitted there.

For what it's worth, the Wilderness Campground at the Adirondak Loj stays open all year. It's not a free campground, but they do plow the access to each campsite. And you can have campfires there. Could be worth it to pay for easy drive up access right to where you're camped, plus a campfire.
