Sort of. Yes, in the high peaks, but not while hiking. It was walking across Rt 28, not too far from Newcomb. At first, I thought it was a horse.
Senility is a terrible thing. I blame society. That and years of substance abuse.

Here is some old sightings, one being near Keene Valley.

Here is a site for reporting various species and different sightings.

I moved this into the wildlife forum.
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

A lot less then in the central and southern dacks where there is a lot less human traffic in the woods and habitat more to a Moose's liking.

I have seen roughly 15-20 moose in the nine years I have lived here. All of my sightings have been South of Indian Lake.

I have seen three in near Lewey lake, including a bull with a rack that would have put most Maine Woods moose to shame, five along the Route 10 section between the Piseco Outlet bridge and the Good Luck lake Trailhead, Several sightings in the areas of Middle Lake and Pumpkin hollow (probably the same two) and this year after one of our big rains there was a calf at the edge of our yard.

I've seen Moose sign in several places in the Adirondacks, including around Buckhorn lake in the Silver lake Wilderness near Piseco.

So although not in abundance, they are not all that rare either. And still, i have people in my town who are in their 90's who have never seen a moose in their life and have lived here since birth.

Of all the areas in the Adirondacks, the high peaks is probably the least likely place to see a moose except possibly in the Cold River Area and down towards the Santononis.

there is one roaming around by rt 73 in between craigwood golf course and olympic sports complex. one was killed in the road by osc last fall too. i have never seen a moose, but i do usually have my big loud dumb dog with me, so maybe thats why.

                  habitat

A very productive spot for seeing moose is the Tahawus Rd. Thus, any drive to the southern apporaches to the High Peaks offers one of the best spots in the Park to see them. I work with two guys who have sportsman's cabins off this road and see them frequently.
