    Snowy Owls - Adk foothills

While longing for the return of migrating songbirds to the Adirondacks this spring, it was a nice winter for avian visitors from the far north. Here are two Snowy Owls that I photographed in the Adirondack foothills of Herkimer County. Local residents and local birders did not wish for a circus of visitors, so the location of these owls was kept fairly quiet. While the owls have now departed, the memory of seeing these beautiful birds will last a long time with me. Other Adirondack winter visitors on my site include Bohemian Waxwings, Rough-legged hawks, and Pine Grosbeaks. Here's the link:

Welcome to the nature photography website of Jeff Nadler. His photography and written nature articles have appeared in Bird Watchers Digest, Adirondack Life, Adirondack Explorer, Natural New England, and NY State Conservationist. His photographs are used by numerous conservation organizations across the U.S. and Canada including the Boreal Songbird Initiative, Bio-diversity Research Institute, NRDC, Wildlife Conservation Societies of the U.S. and Canada, Mountain Birdwatch, Vermont Institute of Natural Science, American Bird Conservancy, Audubon New York, and many others. The Birds gallery has over 320 North American species available for print or web publication. Inquiries for licensed image use can be made via e-mail or phone.

Beautiful photos Jeff. Although I didn't get to see this one, I did see the Snowy outside of Oneida (only one of the four was left by the time I got there later in the winter). Stunningly beautiful creatures. Now if only next year the GGO's have another irruption I'll be in heaven!
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain.

        Excellent stuff as always Jeff!
I've got myself a 500mm 4.5L a few weeks ago. I'll soon be on the hunt for some wildlife to try it out.
        Thanks for posting those shots!

Wow. Impressive work. Watching the birds come back has been fun this year. The blackbirds and red-winged blackbirds were back a couple of weeks ago, now bluebirds, robins, and cedar waxwings. Probably twenty waxwings were outside my window at school today feasting on some left over crabapples. Very pretty birds.
