    All the Marten my hunting partners and myself have seen there, have been on the ground.
    We saw them last fall while deer hunting there on a daily basis.

      Was it a beech mast year? Probably foraging the ground.

      Probably would be easy to see them in the winter if you could find some tracks and then their hunting burrows.

        No beech mast last fall 2020, but fall of 2019 was a bumper crop, most I’ve seen in decades.

          That's what happened the last time I saw one. I was on the south side of Algonquin, standing still & making little squeaky sounds to see if any birds responded -- very quickly a Marten popped up right next to me.
