Moose SHOT in Sugarbush, NY

Needed to lose his hunting license privilege FOREVER and then confiscate the firearm he used to shoot the moose and sell it to raise proceeds for conservation, etc. Need to make penalties for violations hit hard in a person's wallet to get them to really wake up and stop this BS.

Arrest Made in Adirondack Moose Killing Case – Franklin County

On Dec. 4, ECOs charged Zachary Vaughn, 26, of Saranac, Clinton County, with numerous counts related to the killing of a moose in the town of Franklin, Franklin County, following a month-long DEC investigation. Vaughn was charged with four misdemeanors: taking of a moose; possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle; use of an artificial light in a vehicle while in possession of firearm; and hunting deer with the aid of an artificial light. He also was charged with three additional violations. Vaughn is scheduled to appear before the Town of Franklin Criminal Court on Dec.19, and faces a maximum penalty of $9,725 in fines and up to one year imprisonment.

Juts pointing out an inaccuracy in what could be seen as an inflammatory statement. And, yes, signs do get shot with birdshot, usually once, and then all hunters get tarred for years afterward. Kind of like deciding that all backpackers need an education course because you find two TP flowers along a trail.

All hikers should pass a course and get a pin to wear. Not that many already do not know how to be prepared for the ADKs but some go in with just alcohol and tennis shoes and end up in trouble. You may not be in that category but S&R has found many that were.

This has been discussed at length here before. Making light of a potential life or death situation does not help those who do not know any better.
