So far, nothing from DEC and they released new ECO and Forest Ranger reports today.

ADKGal: did you see the dead moose. Did you talk to DEC? If so, was it a Forest Ranger, ECO or both? Usually this kind of thing is newsy.
      Life's short, hunt hard!

A few years back a moose was shot along rt 28 in Forestport. It was shot 9 times by a State Trooper with his 9mm, trying to stop the suffering after being struck by a car. The moose refused to die. The trooper finally went next door and got a neighbor with a 30-06 to dispatch it. So I will wait for the facts to come out before passing judgment.

You can't legally hunt with buckshot in NY either. And it would be a rare hunter that employs a shotgun in Northern Zone where rifles are legal.

My guess, Johnny was merely using the word 'buckshot' rather than 'birdshot' and there are plenty of birdshot shot signs and plenty of hunters use that for small game.

Juts pointing out an inaccuracy in what could be seen as an inflammatory statement. And, yes, signs do get shot with birdshot, usually once, and then all hunters get tarred for years afterward. Kind of like deciding that all backpackers need an education course because you find two TP flowers along a trail.

Sorry, wasn't meant to be inflammatory. Basically I was saying stupid people do stupid things.

Since nobody’s been able to find out if this story is true.
Could Adkgirl’s accusation be a false flag to stir up controversy?

I think we're waiting for the next ranger report to come out , maybe adkman12986 can say .

To say anything about Adkgirl's motive would be another conclusion drawn from speculation , I would sooner give her the benefit of the doubt and say she loves wildlife and was upset .

That's one problem with carrying a 9mm. Probably a Glock. Carry the 357 which can shoot .38 special too. Use the Glock as a backup with a shin holster. Of course maybe the officer was a poor shot.

A few days ago I saw a paragraph in the Adirondack Enterprise about this.

It said there was a moose shot in Vermontville and the investigation was ongoing.

If you google Adk Daily Enterprise the article mentions a moose found on the side of road on Oct 31. There is an on going NYSDEC investigation are this time.
Thank you Bluequill for the information.

I truly hope they get the max. Makes every hunter look bad.

Someone makes an account and one post with no citation to name people allegedly committing a crime? Mods should delete the post unless at least a citation can be tied to a charge.
