  • Moose SHOT in Sugarbush, NY

Last week some moron shot and killed a moose on Goldsmith Road in Sugarbush, NY The moose was left on the side of the road! The DEC is saying it was a 700 pound female and they have an idea who killed the moose, but cannot prove it as yet. I guess I am just venting here. I live on Goldsmith Road and have had moose in our yard several times. We have many sightings throughout the year here and often see moose prints on the road. People have to know that moose are protected in New York. Why would someone do something like this?????? OMG! I'm so angry!!!!!!!!!

I agree. Wasn't there a fatality (both moose and human) car accident near there a few years ago on Rte 3?

I don't think there's been a human fatality via a moose-vehicle collision in New York, yet. Bound to happen though.

Make us all angry. Perhaps Lady Karma will find her way to that moron's home.

I hope they find who did this and they get their licenses revoked and also hope they get some prison time. This is just horrible to do such a crime, then just leave it there. It was just a senseless act!

              Yep, senseless and wasteful.

This is the second one shot in the area. One was shot by Noth Franklin about a month ago

I remember there being a fatal car/moose accident several years ago on RT 3 , I believe a woman was killed , IIRC.

AdkGal , has it been verified that this moose was shot for no good reason ?

Since you can't legally shoot a moose in NY, what exactly would be a good reason?

the only 'good' reason would be if it was aggressive towards you or family.

                      Other stupid reasons.
                      Because I could.
                      I wanted too.
                      It ate my garden.
I thought I could get away with it.
I thought it was a moose crossing sign.

Not a good one, but the same reason to put a load of buckshot through a road sign, I guess. Because you're an idiot, nobody is looking, and you can.

I'm just asking for the sake of knowing the facts before passing judgment. This thread reminds me of 12 Angry Men .
Sometimes animals are sick , injured , aggressive . Sometimes it takes time to sort things out .

There are authorities to be called for most situations...rather than taking it on to one's self and then leaving the scene.
