If anyone saw News Channel 5 tonight, they had a video clip from a border camera which clearly shows a large cat walking through a field (northern Clinton County). Press Republican writer Dennis Aprill says there is little doubt that it is a mountain lion. The only problem is there was no legit reference for size in the footage, but based on what I saw there is NO QUESTION. Anyone else see this?

I didn't realize it had already been posted. Yes, they did show in on tv. I looked for on the news station's website as well, but no luck. You can try at
If you find it let us all know. All that is missing is a frame of reference for size...but it think it's legit. -GGComment

The video is there, at the link you posted. It's under the latest news section (under "NewsChannel 5 video" at the bottom). It's labeled Nov 14. Mountain Lion Sighting. It's an interesting piece, but as the narrator and Grey Ghost point out, the camera was about 2 miles away so it is real tough to gauge size perspective. Wildlife folks are attempting to do some perspective tests in order to see if they can make a better guess as to size.
A guy the look at it through binocs says he thought it was about 80-100 lbs. One thing is certain, it certainly a cat with a very long tail. Not likely to be a mistaken bobcat sighting. Interesting Stuff"I can feel your anger. It gives you focus. It makes you stronger. " Supreme ChancellorComment

I finally found the link. It's like searching for a needle in a haystack on that mess of a website. Anyway, I'm glad I got to see it again myself. I'm convinced!
For anyone else interested, check
As Mavs said, click on Mountain Lion Nov. 14 under News Channel 5 Video on the bottom left side of the home page.
I'm hoping we'll get more people to chime in on what they think.Comment

Good work on locating this, GG. My feeling is the tail length makes it very probable that a cougar was caught on the tape. Both the length of the tail and the cat's gait as it walked point in that direction. Now the question becomes- what is the origin, wild or a release?
I'd like to believe that we are seeing a gradual expansion of mt. lions from southern Canada (Quebec/Ontario) into the northeast, similar to the colonization of the Eastern coyote decades ago. Very exciting IF this is the case.

It's a totaly shot in the dark coming from me Poco since I have no idea as to the cougar populations in Canada, but I just find it hard to believe that all of the sightings can be explained by release. I hope we're seeing a migration as well.Comment

I know, i know...
The cougar was put there by the terrorists so they could sneak over the border while border patrol was busy looking at the big kitty.

Cougar track?
Sent out a total of 25 thru-hikers this season, AND ALL PRESENT AND ACCOUNTED FOR - SIR!
Anywho, four out of the 25, referenced a track they were not familair with. We believe cougar on this end after matching the tracks with a book and thier pics upon their return here.
France has posted her track, hard to see, but remember absolutely no claw marks, she does have a email and could probably resend a larger picture. I will also try to get a copy of tim&joes.

that track does look liek a mountain lion to me. it woudl be better to have a larger picture. And the know the stride and what not. Most cat tracts are in a straight ine due to they way they walk while canines are more staggered. With the exception of the fox who's tracks travel in a line like the cat. Over the summer i did some work with the chldren i worked with making molds from old tracks and the mountain lion one I used looks exactly the same. Its quite perfect so you may also want to think about people "planting" tracks."It's not where your from, it's where your at."Comment
