I thought people might be interested in seeing a live loon cam. Showing the mother and father (they take turns) tending to the eggs. Hatching will happen in 7 days.
I enjoy the live cam - I am an avid loon enthusiest - I collect loon photos and carvings - all kinds of things - ThankYou for bringing this site to my attention
Fascinating stuff...
The eggs were left unattended for about one hour. At one point you could hear the loons singing out on the lake and they didn't sound close. I was a bit nervous. Finally one returned, flipped the eggs over with its beak and nestled in. When its profile could be seen I could make out the silvery flash of a fish in its mouth. With a few flips of its head it seemed to swallow it.
This is better than anything on TV...
Thanks again for the link Dick.

When I checked it this evening, there were eggs but no loons! Where did they go? Also, at one point, the camera zoomed in on the eggs, though that part of the image was a little fuzzy. Checked again a few minutes ago, and loon was back on the eggs again.
This morning (Friday) the loon is sitting on the eggs, but now is squirming and wiggling around quite a bit (movement inside eggs?). It also appears to be panting. Do loons pant?
As far as I can tell, one of the chicks has hatched, but not the other. From time to time, I see what I think is the newborn (shot is very blurry) popping up from under the mother's wing. A parallel thread exists over on VFTT, and they seem to be under the same impression. The mother seems glued to the nest. The website text says they move the young to the water "within hours." I wonder if it's waiting for the second one to be born?
I checked early this AM (Saturday) and just recently (1:45 PM). The next appeared to be empty. Unfortunately the camera lens is blurry, and it's hard to tell what exactly is on the ground, but I don't see a sign of a bird or an egg. Definitely no adults.
Someone on the parallel thread on VFTT said he "realizied I wasseeing small rodents move around the egg. One scurried off to the rear." Someone else over there said they "saw about the same thing this morning at about 7:45. Instead of rodents, I saw bugs crawling on the shell. The little loon may have hatched earlier and the bugs and rodents are just cleaning up.....It sounds good anyways."
It's hard to know what really happened. Perhaps the web site folks will post something. Anyone else watching this?
The lens is clearer this AM. Though still a little blurry, it appears there is one egg (still unhatched?) and the remnants of the other egg. But where are the parents?
