There are many strange sights near the reservoir, but an old timer around here mentioned to me that there were "salt mines " near the shore of the Sacandaga,. Now whether or not they predated the creation of the res, I don't know.
At this point I'm sure they are just shafts, with no infrastructure left, but does anyone have any insight?
In Hague, the old graphite mines are explorable , if you find the right entrance, but please don't disturb the bats during their breeding season.
The place has become a major bat hibernaculum.
