I purchased William O'Hern's Vol 1 of his history of Moose River Plains and its incredible! Such a wonderful read and Im going up there next week and will be imagining so much more while traversing the area. All the lives and work that went into passion for that area in those early days is almost unfathomable now but its funny because the first time I ever went there, probably early May 2006 and the Limekiln gate was not open yet and me and my 2 friends hiked in and camped at the Red River site. We saw big piles of bear poop on the road and I caught my first ever brookie on a pheasent tail nymph at the culvert but I had no idea what was beyond that and everytime Ive gone since I try to see something new! Its a special and of course challenging place but to me its a rite of passage being a NY state outdoorsman! Thank you to the author for compiling so much info and Ill be looking for Vol 2 at the bookstore in Old Forge Hardware when I go through next week

I too look forward for volume 2, because Jay O’Hern visited my home several times going over my father’s pictures of the J&C Lumber Co. logging camp operations in the late 1950’s. My father was co-owner of J&C Lumber Company. The camp was on Sumner Stream near Lost Ponds. They employed 30 men and had 10 crawler tractors and 25 horses. I remember going there with my dad when I was about 6 years old. I believe Jay has had some health issues and I’m not sure vol 2 has gone to press?
