    Came across this this weekend

tromping along with my wife. It was around 35 or 40 yards away.

      kurtteej,

What a great photo! It almost looks as if he was posing for you. Love the light in the shot, too!

          Great shot ... beautiful!

Here's a buck we saw in Maine in August 2004 ... saw him swimming across the river/channel while we were canoeing ... so we quietly came up behind him and got several pictures.

Thanks all -- it was one of those 'oh god i have to snap this' moments. He stood and let me finish what I was doing before he walked off, it was as if he was checking me out, not the other way around. Taking wildlife you really need to be quick and you cant overplan if you can plan at all -- you're spot on Wilderness Photo.

funny thing is, at this time of year all I can think of is "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, looks delicious!"

I have to agree that the shot is stunning.

After having my first deer meat on a few occassions this year (don't know how I went so long without ever trying it), I'm in agreement. I'm just going to let someone else do the killing part. They're really beautiful and passive creatures. Same reason I don't kill my own cattle for steaks.

Now if it were "him or me", you better believe we'd be eating venison tonight!
