Best sub $300 digicam with 64MB+ storage

I may be selling my Kodak 2.0 to a coworker. It will help absorb some of the cost to buy a replacement.

I want a sub-$300 3MP camera with 64MB or more storage and/or cheap memory card expansions (Kodak uses proprietary MMC cards that cost quite a bit). Should also have rechargeable batteries included or a cheap way of adding this ability. Optical/digital zoom is not a concern, I rarely use the zoom I have.

Figure I mind as well ask as this is for outdoor photography and who better to know of good solutions then you folks .

Get the Canon S30. It takes regular Compact flash cards. I have one an love it. It also takes 30second video clips.

It comes with a 16MB flash card, but you can find 1GB cards for like $150 now.

goto Google and do a froogle search for the best price on the web.

    Other places to look are:

I like some of your shots, BUT the saturation/levels were off and I could see the quality difference between my shots and yours.

I was thinking canon too, and most people rave, but based on that little comparison I was kinda disappointed.

On the other hand, it's a minor quality loss when I look at the overall value.

Did it come with a rechargeable battery pack or was that extra?

The Powershot A70 is a pretty nice camera if you're looking for something that gives you a nice point and shoot with the option to mess around with manual controls. You can get it for about $225-$250, and then spend another $50 on a 128 MB flash card for it. It's only downside is that it uses AA batteries, which isn't a downside at all if you have rechargeables and a charger.

Most importantly though, A70 photo quality is GREAT (for a 3 MP camera).

I just looked up it's review on dpreview.com (most reliable source of info on the web for digital cameras), and they say "Battery life was also a big surprise with this camera, we've simply never had a camera last so long on AA batteries."

So maybe AA's aren't a bad thing after all.

dpreview is a great site, forgot to check there.

The Powershot S30 is a little out of my price range, so I'm going to check on the A70... thanks!

Friend was able to fix his current digicam, so I'm going to stick with my Kodak for the time being. There's a nice 5MP kodak for $300 retail, but I can't justify spending that $$$ at this time.

                Lil late but:

The Olympus Stylus 400 is small, weatherproof, 4mp, remote, and has great reviews.

newegg.com had a deal w/128meg card for 300 and change....

                but we missed it....

Its over 300bucks, but you can take it out in the rain and not freak out about it.

                Its my next camera :P

Tanx for the suggestion Mike, but as luck would have it I found another coworker interested in the old camera and docking station for it, and THEN I found a brand new Kodak DX6440 in the classifieds of a PC forum I frequent for only $270 shipped!

4MP camera, plus dock, plus I get to keep my old 64MB memory card (should be more than enough for me)... really nice deal.

I didn't intentionally stay with Kodak, but I couldn't pss up the deal.

That sounds like a fairly good deal. Nice camera...4x optical zoom is nice over the normal 3x most digi cams have.
