how does everyone carry their camera?

I was jsut wondering how everyone carried ther cameras, i find it a pain to have it around my neck, i cant stand all the bouncin when im hiking, yet its a pain to take off my pack and get it out and by that time if the shots of wild-life the animals usally long gone. Ive been keeping it in my g/f pack but she tires out and im usally a good pace in front of her the further up we go. i have a cannor rebil g slr , with the standered lends and then a 300 mm zoom. so any who liek i said, how does eveyone else carry their for easy access? - Wiley

Sometimes in the pack. Sometimes around the neck. I find I take a lot more and a lot better pictures when it's around my neck. Also, sometimes I buckle my sternum strap over the camera strap to reduce bouncing.

I carry it around my waist where I can pull it out anytime without taking off my pack. If I am at an area where I am going to be taking pictures along the trail for a ways then I put it around my neck and either drop it under my jacket if I'm wearing one or clamp it under the chest strap of my pack to keep it from bouncing.

My camera case has a loop on the back that I put my sternum strap through. I have been meaning for some time to find a way to secure it to the sternum strap(sop it doesn't fall off when I unbuckle it)

In winter I carry a smaller camera and keep it in a pocket sometimes.

                  I use this:

And a Carabiner attached through the belt loop attached to the shoulder strap. This keeps the camera out of the way of my arms, but within handy reach. Definately worth the extra 1 lb. I have an old SLR (thanks to Johnnycakes) so it is quite large.

I do the same thing, but my camera case has a small handle on the top that I grab when I unbuckle so I don't drop the camera.

Either in an external mesh side pocket that I can reach without removing my pack or in a small fanny pack worn back to front. In my case: camera in the pack = zero pictures.

i was thinkin of making a template and sewing a case out of a light but strong fleece material or neoprene that woudl attach to my sternam strap. Turns out im just lazy, took me long enough to finish drawing out and making a pack cover! but i guess the bright side is i did get it done haha

I believe mine cost $0.97 at walmarts. At that price why make one? The brand name is Targus.

Val, I've got the same $.97 camera case. Very handy little case for my digital. I run the sternum strap through the loop.
