Amature needs some tips from the Pros

Planing on doing my anual day hike within the next 2 weeks on a local mountain, and am just looking for some tips here.

Camera I have is a Cannon G2 4MP....

So do you guys and gals have and tricks you wouldnt mind sharing?

Keep the camera in an inner/warm pocket. Most batteries stop providing adequate juice when they reach a certain temp (mine stop at/around 0C).

Take lots of pictures, thanks to digital technology, film is cheap!

use the highest quality setting you can (based on the amount memory you have).

Don't use the zoom too much, they tend to interpolate too much data (on the macro setting) and get a little fuzzy/pixelated. You can always digitally zoom with photoshop later (which does a better job anyways).

i have a 3x optical zoom on that camera...
so does the dont zoom still apply to that?
I do however know the digital zoom is garbage.

The optical will work well, and that was an afterthought when I posted (good catch). I never use my digital zoom either (which you need to turn on your LCD/preview display for in order to work properly).
