    Mtn biking?

Anybody on here go biking? If so, where in the state do you go. I'm always looking for new places to explore on my bike. My local places are rice creek/fallbrook and great bear. Within an hour I've got highland forest and bear swamp. Any bike friendly trails in your area?

    hillman,

Talk to SDG75. There are a bunch of trails in our area here in northern PA just about 2-3 hours from Oswego. I know there is a big race here every year and people come from all over the country to participate. I think the race is in July if I am not mistaken. Seth can you help me out here?

    Thanks,
    ADAM

Is it the raccoon rally? If so, I've heard it's a blast. I haven't ridden in PA yet, might have to try it this summer. I'd like to kayak down there too.

Kayaking is fun down Pine Creek. This creek runs through the Grand Canyon and is a fun ride when the water is high. I know Seth just ran the creek last week and he had a blast. I cannot believe he went without me and had the nerve to take my canoe. ITs ok though since him and his brother spent more time in the water than in the canoe

I am not sure if it is Racoon Rally or not. As soon as Seth chimes in he can help us....

The race is called The Laurel Classic Mountain Bike Challenge. Here is a link for info http://www.twistedspokes.org/events.php

Pine Creek is a good time in a canoe or kayak. There were alot of people out this past weekend when I went. There are nice areas to camp along the water to make it an overnight trip. You shouldn't complain Adam I asked you to canoe it with me, but were too busy with house work...lol. The wife is starting to crack the whip. I can't wait till you have to cancel a hiking trip because you are too busy with the honey-do-list.

There are also numerous trails to mountain bike. I picked up a booklet of trail descriptions and maps from Pine Creek Outfitters several years ago. They most likely still have that version or an updated one available if you ever want to come down and check out some trails.

I will get a divorce before I have to cancel a trip and it was not a honey do list....lol You just have to give me more than a 4 hour notice its sometimes kinda hard to get away when you have a baby around you know....actually you should know you have a son! Chill out and lets go out for a :drink: after work tonight!

Hi Hillman, we mt bike in Bear Swamp every other Wednesday at 6:30. This week we had about 8 guys and it was a blast. I used to do the race at rice Creek/Fallbrook every spring and it's a prety good place to ride. Pa. guys I was the official at the Laurel Classic in Wellsboro for 3 years a while back when they first started that race. How bout that Stinger downhill?

I have never ridden the trail for the Laurel Classic, but I heard the stinger is so steep that most riders get off and walk that section. Is there any truth to that JimB?

sdg, the Stinger downhill is very long and steep. Alot of the riders jump off and run down it but that is still no guarantee of not crashing . The fact that the whole descent is lined with spectators clanging cowbells, cheering and sayin"c'mon you can ride it" while you are in a race situation pretty much explains the mayhem. With care it could be ridden, and is, by skilled riders who knows proper braking technique and weight transfer.

                        Grafton

Hillman, come to Grafton for mtn. biking. It has some great trails if you like technical stuff (roots, rocks, mud, etc.). They have a race every year at the state park. You can use my guest room since you've got a long drive.

It's on Rt. 2 east of Troy.

Ther is some great local mountain biking in Syracuse around the University. I've been riding there and at Highland for years and love both.

We mt. bike in the Catskills and So. Adk's. Pine Orchard trail is great, though short. We're still beginners so our choices are limited. If we were more expert, there are quite a few snow mobile trails in Wilcox Wild Forest that are bikeable. We ski them in winter and they are a blast. Too rocky for us to bike at our present skill levels, though. The horse trail to Camp Santanoni further north is easy, but scenic.
In the Catskills, Onteora Lake has a nice trail (Kingston area). The xc ski area at Belleayre is nice too.
Does anyone out there know any other places in the Eastern NY for beginner to intermediate riders?

I'd like to know of some good trails in the northern adirondack, if there are any.
