Long Trail
I'm thinking of doing the same thing this summer. It appears as though there is not a whole lot of information online about the trail. The Guidebook is very helpful and can be purchased through the Green Mountain Clubs website or EMS. The major retail chains don't seem to carry it.
I hiked parts of it with a friend who was doing a thu hike. I'll try and get in contact with him and see how he can help.
If you find anything you think is useful please feel free to send it my way!
Good Luck! -
I think i have read most of the info online that i can find , your right not much there, i do have a copy of the trail guide, i have also learned that the End to Enders Guide is a must also, gives alot of valuable info ,like water supplies ect.
when are you planning to do it? I think it can be done in about 3 wks. average about 13 mi. per day, thats easy, well should be, never hiked the green mnts. before,
i've done most of my hiking in the ADKS. did the (NPT northville/ placid trail ) last yr. I am working my way up to the A.T.
I am still looking for info, if i find anything else i will let you know,
Thanks for responding.Comment

I have section hiked a few parts of the Long trail. Check my website for some pictures.
I think that 13 miles a day is a reasonable pace if you are an ADK hiker. How long did the NPT take you? Most people finish the LT in 25-30 days, including a few days in towns. I was planning on hiking it in 2002 but life happened... I planned for 25 days, with only 1 or 2 15+ mile days.
There are quite a few towns along the way, I imagine end-to end you will only have to stay out for about 3 or 4 nights if you planned it right. (I'm sure you would want to camp more than that). There is also a new map out that shows the entire length of the trail with all of the side-trails marked. The southern part of the trail is much more mild than the northern end, which takes you over a number of 4Kers.
Vermont is a beautiful place and the LT has an interesting history. I wish you luck on your journey.
