Very nice! Thanks for sharing. Curious as to your specific meals.

Our breakfasts and dinners were home dehydrated meals (and granola) from Jaffe's book, Backcountry Gourmet. Our lunches/snacks were sausage and hard cheeses with candy, nuts, home-dried fruit, Pop-Tarts (one a day each), and home-made beef jerky. IIRC our food supply for 7 days weighed close to 30 lbs. Roughly 2 lbs per day per person. We ate well.

Thanks! Really cannot beat the compactness and weight of the home dried meals.

Nor the taste and nutritional value. Not to mention the cost as compared to store-bought dehydrated food, which is very salty and lacking in protein and calories. No matter what the flavor the commercial meals all taste the same to me anyway. The Jaffe recipes have plenty of protein, fat and carbs. I modify the recipes (shredded carrots, mushrooms, extra this, extra that and sometimes make notes in the book).
This approach is time consuming however.

True. I assume your recipes come from her second book. Both provided me with venturing out on my own with recipes... like you with the midifications. Eventually modifications become completely new recipes. A new breakfast we have is a "rice pudding" brown rice, eggs, coconut milk and spices. We add raisins to it in the field.

Once you understand the basic principles of home-dehydrating it's pretty easy to improvise.

Neil, beautiful pics, looks like an amazing trip!

May I assume you use an actual dehydrating machine at home? I may need to get one...

                      Thanks!
We use a Nesco dehydrator, which is not the best available but it gets the job done.
