    White Mountains of NH

Any of you climb/hike these mountains...I recently read about them in Backpacker mag....

Looks like a very challenging few day climb (something like 4 or 5 mountains)...any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

    The whites.....

.... consist of many more Mts. than 4 or 5. And they are very challenging. You might call them deadly. If you go, choose a few smaller Mountains Acclimate yourself. They call Mt Washington "the deadliest little mountain in the world".

Be prepared for anything in any season.

      ....

Thanks for the response...The backpacker article focused on a "loop" of a few peaks that would take upwards of 4 or 5 days...
It sounded challenging and something worth doing a little training for.

I may be a few peaks away from trying that circuit!

So, have you climbed any of the Whites? If so, what were the climbs like as far as difficulty, distance, trail?

        Let Me see..

I have climbed Washington, which was surprisingly doable in one day. Trails are easy to follow and wide, being fire roads for much of the way. The weather was fine and we were unprepared, so we were lucky.

The Lafayette Lincoln Haystack loop Was a great day hike. we had a nice early start and had no problem getting out before dark. The Ridgeline was incredibly windy and sleet was blowing forcefully, in Mid September, and technically we werent properlly prepared. It was a great hike.

Mt. Jackson was a good day trip that I recommend (but check it out thoroughly for yourself.

What kind of experience do you have, and where do youy live? If you live in NY, I would not cut my teeth on these peaks and don't go alone.

          Take a look

          at this website.
          White Mts

The Whites are beautiful. I have never hiked them in winter but have been in them a few times over the years. They offer such a diversity of everything the woods can offer.

I totally agree with rondak100, "Be prepared for anything in any season."

            ...

I live in Central NY and have hiked approx. 15 high peaks including Wright, Algonquin, Gothics, Marcy...

I may be a year away from tackling the White Mountains...but I would definitely start small and work into them...
Your post has me wanting to climb them now!
            Thanks!
