I hiked a few miles of the Long Path today. I started on the state land off Irish Hill Rd, near Berne, NY. There was snow and ice which was patchy. I decided against my crampons but would have been better off using them. The trail is clearly marked and no obstructions were encountered. Plenty of woodland vbirds heard but were foreign to me. Intermittent clouds, sun, snow made for a great couple of hours. I headed to this area, having been near there before but I was unaware that it was a section of the Long Path. I will be reading up on the northert stretch of this trail to learn more.
