I have a question for the RINO 130 owners. I'm thinking of getting one myself moving up from the 110 and was wondering what the difference is from a software/mapping point of view. I don't necessarily mean navigating in the field but how do you get your data that you generated in Topo! to overlay onto whatever map it is that resides in the unit's memory?
RINO 130 question.

The RINO comes with a data cable. Actually the same cable that that you use for the 110"If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them more than the miracles of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it." Lyndon B. Johnson -
My question wasn't clear. I understand that you can't upload Topo! into Garmin. Instead there is another type of map, different graphically, that you upload. If you have worked all your routes and wp's out with Topo! but have different software in your RINO how does it work? The best, the most successful adventurer, is the one having the most fun.Comment

What He said!!
Actually your question was crystal clear.
No sense in my telling you that the cable would upload the data if the Garmin coudn't read the data is there?!

Some programs, like X-Map, allow you to print out your track without the map. If you print these onto transparencies, you can tape them over aerial photos, topos, whatever, and create a progressive composite with different trips/tracks/routes.When it comes to skis & snowshoes, I'm a big believer in separate-but-equal; i.e., happily sharing two different sides of the same trail.Comment

And then fold them all real small and stuff them in the gps?Originally posted by FlatrockSome programs, like X-Map, allow you to print out your track without the map. I upload/download info from TOPO!, Map source, and USA Photo Maps if your data cable is hooked up, it usually can read it, and will upload/download without a problem. I like the USA Photo map because I can toggle between Topo and Photo maps and transpose my Tracks, waypoints, and routes right on to the map. Try it out!

Gary,
I have uploaded from Photomaps into my 110. It's perfect for slides (at least those ones that formed before the pictures were taken!).
It looks like Garmin takes whatever WP's you feed it and lays them down over top of the grid you have designated (UTM etc.). If there's already a map laying over the grid, no problem, it simply lays your wp's overtop of that. I think. The best, the most successful adventurer, is the one having the most fun.Comment
