Hows this little gem? A predessesor to the SVEA Optimus?

Runs on??... denatured alcohol? butane? Looks like it says alcohol in view 2. I imagine it probably weights quite a bit and probably doesn't run much better than the can-stoves that weigh nearly nothing...
My guess is it runs on white gas. With the Optimus name on it, it probably works as well as it did new.
It's not an optimus Zach, it's a "Retec", made in Ohio. It runs on denatured alcohol.
It works great, especially wih some wind. There is a hole on the side that has a tapered rubber plug that you use to regulate the temp. If you face that toward the wind, it will double, triple or quadruple your cooking speed depending on the intensity of the wind.
It's great for car or canoe camping but is heavier and larger then one would like for backpacking, although a lot lighter then it appears. I got this at a yard sale in the original box, with instructions, all in mint condition.

The classic SVEA Optimus Stove is something that I have always been "gonna" get, but always have to put it behind something more "practical"
Now I'm looking at a Primus Himalaya Multifuel to use primarily for winter. I have the Jetboil for when I do freeze dried or dehydrated food when all I have to do is add water, but I also do a lot of trail cooking too. Plus I am usuallyin a position where having two stoves is convenient.
