Hawk - Are you a Wetterlings or a Gansfors kinda guy?
I've wanted a GB wildlife hatchet for quite some time. I think I might just pick up one of the Wetterlings (either the Scout or the Camping axe) and save myself a few bucks. I can't imagine there being that much difference, can you?

The review favors the Wetterling and Wildernessphoto has a Wetterling that I have seen in action. I asked him which made more sennse, the 14" or 20" (They both have the same head) and he said he favors the 20".
I am definately ordering the 20" Wetterling Hunting Axe in the next week or so.
I found it, with sheath, for $28.99 with $8.00 shipping here.........

I'd like to look it over when you get it, if you don't mind. I've yet to see either firsthand.
I'll let you know when it arrives. I'll probably order it on Monday.
The guy doing the review must have been Paul Bunyons mentor. He sure knew axes (or else talked a DAMN! good game!!). He pretty much said that except for cosmetics the Wetterlings was better.
From what he said, I might want to invest in a better sheath for it, but I usually custom make my own anyway. Far as i am concerned, a belt loop on an axe sheath is about as practical as a pet rock.
I'm also looking for a good quality, lightweight, break-down bow or buck saw
if you have any leads on those.

I'll talk to the better half about getting a hatchet... want to split the shipping? If so, I'll run you up the money prior to ordering. Pending approval that is...
Sure that saves $4.00. I just ran an order without finishing it to make sure that the shipping for two would be $8.00.
Like I said, I plan on ordering on Monday

Here I am with it at Gill Brook. It's in my left hand.
I've swung a lot of axes in my day, I was sold on an Estwing for backpacking because it was light, and the head and handle were one piece steel. After I picked up a Wetterling I'll never go back! This Ax cuts like an ax 3 times it's size. It throws large chunks, and allows me the ability to cut much larger wood then I can cut with a saw. I've cut through trees 3' in dia. that were laying across the trail. It's extremely well designed, and balanced. I have 15 axes, and this one get's the most use. It's nice to have an ax so light, and powerful, and I can cut, and split, almost any size dead-and-down out there.
I can also build temporary shelters, split cedar shingles and hammer nails & pegs all with the same tool. It's a keeper!
