I was given a PRESS-BOT for my upcoming birthday and tested it on an overnight hike yesterday and today.
It's a coffee press that works inside a wide mouth Nalgene bottle.
Neat piece of engineering!!
You put some coarse ground coffee into the bottle and then insert the press-bot. The bottom, press part of the device, folds in two sections so it slips inside a wide mouth Nalgene bottle. Once inside, you pull up on the pivoting, threaded rod and the press opens full and hugs the side of the bottle. You screw a plastic piece down to make it rigid and lock it in place. Then you pour in water that is just below boiling and screw down the double threaded cover. You let your coffee steep for abut five minutes (to taste) and then push down on the rod which presses all the grounds to the bottom of the bottle. You can then pour your coffee from the bottle through the opening on the top, into your cup. You may then screw the regular Nalgene cover to the Press-Bot to store until ready to pour the rest.
This is a great product. It is well designed and well made. it worked as advertised, made a good cup of coffee and did not allow any grounds into the cup.
I used it last night and this morning at 22 and 8 degrees farenheight respectively. I had practiced taking the device out of the bottle a few times at home to get the hang of it (recommended, theres a litle trick to it that you will learn by practicing) and was able to do so easily in the cold and rinse the bottle before it iced up.
In the warmer weather I usually carry my Jet-boil with it's Coffee press, but I needed something for the cold weather. This set-up will now be with me whenever i am carrying a fuel stove. it only weighs 2 1/2 ounces and stores pretty flat/ For that matter you can carry it in your Nalgene. I also pre-measured my coffee at home and put individual portions in small hobby zip locks for more convenience. If you have one of those Cpzy's for nalgenes, you can put the coffee bottle in that to keep it hot.
