    Rough on gear?

This seems to be a chronic problem. It seems I can't make my gear last. I go through a pair of gaitors about every 6 months. I have gone through 3 pairs of trek poles in the last 2 years. The most recent pair of trek poles I just got 3 uses out of. I just bought a new pair af Merrells and the thrid time out in them a rivet popped that held the lace. I just had to toss a 3-year old day pack because one of the straps was ripping. I can see my snowshoes are starting to go after 3 years of use. I could go on and on...

Am I rough in gear? Or is it just bad luck? Shouldn't this stuff be built to last? How can a broken buckle on gaitors or a popped boot lace rivet be due to anything I did?

Does anyone else have similar experiences?

    It's Kevins fault. He's cursed.

Of all the guys in all the world, you picked him.

So I guess in retrospect or hindsight it's all your fault..

If hiking gear were made to last, it would be too heavy and no one would want to buy it. That's why it doesn't make sense to pay full price for gear anymore. My favorite place to shop is the Sierra Trading Post.

My story is reversed to fvrwld's one . Whatever I have , stays for long-long-long time . I go often in Campmore and just dream to get this - that , but I already have everything , and it servs good .
And it's not about money - I can afford , but I do not need it .

3 things still attract me in shopping fields : gear , books and alco . For 2 first I mostly just a watcher . Last one is a ocean to explore .

On another hand , than more I live , than less I need . Few years ago I started ridding off stuff I do not use . Just giving it away ( not only gear ) . But my miserable living space is still full of .

But if it just about quality of gear , buy the best - it's not always most expensive , definitely is not cheapest . And what forums partly for .

It was a moment of profound weakness. Now I'm stuck...the poodle likes him too much. I'm only in it for the poodle.

Doesn't make any difference. Obviously she didn't listen to me anyway.

Easier and less expensive to get the poodle a different chew toy.!!

Oh, I don't know...no problems earlier... then you hooked up with Kevin and all of a sudden you need new boots, new gaiters, new pack, new snowshoes...where will it end...

Cheap, low-quality, quickly worn out "disposable" gear has its merits, as does making your own with the main sources of wear in mind.
