Where in the ADKS can you rent a canoe?

I'm wanting to go on that Long Lake / Raquette River trip.

And where do you think I can buy a good used one?

    Where do you live?

      Try my friends...
Dave in Saranac Lake at St. Regis Canoe Outfitters

Brian and Grace near Lake Clear at Mac's Canoe Livery

John in Inlet and Old Forge at Mountainman Outdoors where PaddleFest is happening May 19-21 (Old Forge location). Hundreds of canoes will be on display there for try outs and purchases.

Numerous other places abound, at some you need to know a little more about what you want. Just drive until you see one.

That's true, I've often been amazed at how many shops there are along any of the major roadways in the park. Especially in the summer, when there's triple the tourist traffic (many of those same shops are closed for the winter). Just along route 30 you hit a shop at every town (every 10-15 miles).

          Canoe Rental

          Here is another one: http://www.raquetteriveroutfitters.com/index.html

If you do the trip you described you can take out your boat right across the street from the shop. They will also shuttle / store your vehicle...pretty much whatever you need.

Rather than speculating, get the exact amount by simply calling the contacts listed. No guess work, they'd all be happy to quote you a figure plus chat with you on your particular needs.

In the three references I listed for you, they each give you rental fees and new/used prices right on the web page. Did you look?

                  Used Canoe

                  "What do you think a . . . A used canoe . . .wil cost me?"

As a reference point, I paid $1,100 for a used WeNoNah Sundowner (kevlar )rental. This was several years ago. There is nothing structurally wrong with the canoe, it just doesn't have a pretty finish anymore. That didn't matter to me since kids, dogs, and rocks all have a way of scratching up the boat anyway. At the time a new one was $2200 - 2300, not sure what they go for now. I think I got a good deal. I believe the end of the season is a better time to get a used rental, but who knows...call around.

                  Good luck,
