Pepper Spray

Has anyone on this forum had any closes encounters with bears while hiking? Does anyone have any experience with pepper spray repelling a bear? I hear all the stories of how it failed, but are there any success stories.
Note: Any tales put out by some government agency trying to promote it, don't count.

I've had a few encounters with bears in my travels.

Every one was positive and absolutely spiritual. Bears are much better companions then people.

I have never had to repel a bear.

However, I will say that the best thing to stop a bear in it's tracks is pepper spray.
