I've had a spare filter for quite some time but have been delaying replacing my old Katadyn/Pur Hiker filter cartridge because it hasn't become hard to pump. Well, after 2 years of use I decided tonight it was time to change it for sanitary reasons. Glad I did.
The filter itself was brown, so its seen some use. The intake nozzle had some sediment buildup. Inside the actual pump, all around the inside was a layer of dark gree/brown film and it stank. It smelled like my filtered water had been tasting for about a year. So I cleaned the inside, rinsed and replaced with the new filter cartridge. Pumped a liter through the new cartridge. 749 more to go!
