    Kayaking Shanty Brook

I'm trying to upload a couple pictures. These are from Shanty Brook a tributary to the EB of the Sacandaga.

    Nice shots Mike......

If anyone has seen the "whitewater" photo enlargement that I have framed in my living room, Mike is the paddler.

Welcome to the most experienced (or is it the craziest?) paddler I know of on the forum.

This is Mike on Jimmy Creek off the west river road in Wells a couple of years ago during the spring run off.

It looks like you ran that in an inflatable ducky. I'm thinking about buying one of those to introduce my friends to paddling whitewater. It's nice to see one in action. I've seen them on the moose.

Yes, thrillseekers ( www.tseeker.com ) are the way to go. They extend the navagability into the E.L.F. range (extreme low flow). There are drops I run in my thrillseeker that I would not do in a hard boat. The falls on Shanty Brook for one. But there are some drops I would not do in my duck that I'll do in my hard boat, mostly higher volume stuff with lots of stickey hydraulics. THe best thing about the duck is that you can easily hop out to get around strainers and such.
But they are a blast to paddle in their own right.

Next spring sounds good, unless we get some decent rain and stuff comes up sooner.
I noticed on your thread about "favorite rivers to paddle" you did not list yours. What are your favorites ?

I'd say the middle sac is good from below auger falls all the way down to northville. I just bought my kayak last summer and this year I haven't had the time to paddle this spring. There's alot of runs that I need to experience like the west branch from whitehouse down to the campground. The east branch going down through griffin has been on my to paddle list. But, I really haven't paddled any real good runs yet.
