New Jetboil Pot support & Stabilizer ( PT ) Arrived Today
-- The stabilizer is made out of plastic and is triangle shaped until you fold out its 3 legs.
The feet have a rubbery bottom so they don’t slide. There are two sets of hooked notches
on the top of the legs. The inner set hold a Jetboil canister 3.53 fl oz / 100g . The outer
hooked notches holds an MSR fuel canister 8 fl oz / 227 g . Thank you Jetboil for
making it hold either size fuel canister .
-- Pot support is circular shaped , made of stainless (rivets may be steel – magnetic) . It
has 4 metal supports that swing out. On the bottom of each of these supports is a notch
that rides the rim of the Jetboil burner base . There is a very small semicircular notch
on the inner circle of the pot support that goes where the piezo igniter is ( could keep
it from being damaged if it was misaligned)
STORAGE :
-- The metal pot support wings are folded in , and stored upright on top of a
Jetboil fuel canister. The fuel canister and pot support are then placed in
the cooking cup.
-- The stabilizer folds into its triangle shape and is stored upside down , in the
burner base , then placed in the cooking cup , on top of the pot support & fuel
canister.

Probably won't get a chance to fry any thing till this weekend (home). The design looks very good.Every thing nests well .
Just curious as to how quick it boils a liter or two of water. The main reason for the Jetboil is the speed with which it boils water in the cup, cutting down on the fuel that has to be carried, therefor saving weight.
I have a couple of cartridge stoves that are lighter to carry then the Jetboil if I want to do more then make coffee or cook dehydrated or freeze dried meals.
In the winter I carry the Primus Himalaya with White Gas because the cartridge stoves lose a lot of efficiency.
I love the Jetboil for many situations, but sometimes it's faster and easier as well as lighter to carry a different stove.

Redhawk ,
After doing a little testing , I would not use my pot support and stabilizer to boil
water in a pot.
THE TEST :
Set up fuel canister (partial), pot support, stabilizer and burner base.
Poured 2 cups water into an MSR 1.5 liter blacklite pot ( no cover)
Air temperature was ~ 56 degrees
Ignited stove and started timing.
During testing stove sputtered and went out ( still a bit of fuel left in the canister) ??? Bad fuel canister ???
Set up with new fuel canister and started test over.
Stove lit right away and burned strong ( for a Jetboil )
After 10 minutes the water did not reach a full rolling boil!!!!
Switched to the Jetboil cooking cup setup with 2 cups of fresh tap water , the stove reached a full rolling boil in about 4 to 5 minutes.
RESULTS:
Would not use Jetboil pot support and pot to boil water
Bad fuel canister may have affected test that I did with my Jetboil on Poke O Moonshine this winter. In that test , I kept a fuel canister ( The one I just found out was bad ) under my fleece and windbreaker as I hiked. The stove sputtered and went out many times , but I was able to boil water for cocoa.
I will try frying an egg or omelet on it this weekend.
This winter I will retest my Jetboil.
I will still use my white gas MSR Whisperlite in the winter for water and cooking.

The whole point of the Jetboil was the heat exchangerfins and the design to make it efficient. I suspected from your great photos, looking at the pot support, that it would not be any more efficent then any other canister stove, and then if you are carrying the whole unit, it weighs more then the msr's or the Coleman Exponents.
Still can't knock the Jetboil in it's original setup (with the cup) and with the French Coffee Press, it makes a good cup of fresh coffee efficiently too. So for a long day hike when one might want to make a dehydrated meal or coffee or tea, and for carring on a longer bacjpack, going lightweight and carrying dehydrated or freeze dried food or MRE's, the Jetboil can't be beat. It's a great personal stove. The pot support is fine if one cannot afford another stove or just doesn't want one.

My jetboil will boil two cups of water in under 2min. Does anyone else know their boil times? Does it become noticably less efficient over time?

Sacco ,
Thanks for the link to your Winter Jetboil test . It was 10 to 15 degrees F ,
when I tried my test . Ultimately it looked like I had a bad fuel canister on my test. I had to hold the canister between my hands & reignite often .Was able to get water
warmed for spiced cider and cup of soup . I will try my testing again this winter ( I can wait). Tom

Cooked a couple of fried eggs this morning .
5-21-2005
8:00 am
50 F
Equipment:
-- Jetboil burner base / Stabilizer /pot support
-- MSR Blacklite non-stick fry pan ( 7†dia.)
-- MSR Alpine folding Spatula
-- GSI Piranha Foon -- Lexan
Testing:
--Set stove up
--Wiped fry pan with Canola oil using paper towel
Tip: wipe spatula with oil , to keep egg from sticking to it.
(? Do they make backpacking spray PAM ?)
--Fired up the stove
--Put fry pan on the stove and cracked egg into pan.
-- Both Mrs. HAYDK & myself tried our skills at fried Egg cooking.
--My egg was edible , but she won best of show.
She used a lot more oil than I did . (Also a much better cook)
Results:
--- Jetboil cooked fried eggs up easily and should make a nice omelet.
-- As with any backpacking stove the key to cooking is watch your food
continuously

No, but what you can do is take some paper towels (good quality ones), fold them several times and then let them soak up some cooking oil (preferrably Olive ) and then put them in zip locks or some of the small hobby size baggies.
Throw a couple in your cooking bag and whenever you need to coat a pot, just wipe it with the towel and put it back in the bag. One towel should last you several meals.
