    Osprey Crescent Series backpack

I was at REI Co-Op in Atlanta Ga last week and tried on one of those Osprey Crescent series backpacks.

    See here: http://www.ospreypacks.com/3D_cresce...cent_intro.htm

And, at least, in the store, it seemed like a great fit with my back. Does anyone out there have one of these and could you give me a reading on how you like it.

I'm afraid to ask - how much $$$? Couldn't easily find the retail price on the web site, a good indication they cost a lot.

Am I seeing things right - is the top actually designed to go against your head?

I don't have one. I think that 7 pound 6 oz for 4700 ci is a lot of wasted weight.
      (Looking at the 70 series)

Actually all of them run heavy for the capacity they carry compared to other bags.

      Pricey too!

      The 85 lists for $379.00
      The 70 for $349.00
      The 110 for $399.00

You can get a comparable pack from EMS about $200.00 cheaper and a little lighter

        Hmmm...

I recently got a Gregory pack, great fit and very light weight (4,000ci around 3-4 pounds). If you haven't, maybe try them on (EMS carries them).

when i tried the EMS packs and then the Gregory, I liked the Gregory much better. just seemed to fit more comfortably. i'm not knocking EMS packs, 'cause my older EMS 2800TL has served me well over the past several years. but when i went to get a larger pack and did the comparisons, i went with the Gregory.

i think that many who hike the AT like Osprey packs but certainly not monsters that weigh in at over 7 pounds.

KWC, I think we also forgot to mention that the Gregory packs are half the price of the Osprey...

Starbaby, I guess no one's answered your question but maybe the discussion could be useful to you anyways...

you're right Kevin! and EMS often has them on sale ... mine was $40 off the regular retail when I bought it last fall.

Yes, these are answers indeed! Comfort and fit is very important to me, but if it twice the price (and weight!) than other possibilities, then I guess it's a no go. Out of curiosity, what model Gregory pack do yuo have Kevin?
