    MSR Stoves

I would have to say this is the best purchase I have made in a long time. The stove I have is called the "Pocket Rocket". It weighs 4oz and comes in a plastic carrying case. All you do is just screw it into the MSR gas cannister.

The only problem that I have is that its hard to find the MSR gas. I usually have to go to Galyans in Rochester when I visit family.

Does anyone know where else I can get these gas cannisters?

    Thanks,

      morrell12,

The pocket rocket only burns "MSR IsoProâ„¢ Premium Fuel" this type of fuel shares many of the same physical characteristics as Butane used in cigarette lighters. The Pocket Rocket should not be confused with the XGK that can use white gas, kero, unleaded auto fuel, Jet-A Aviation, and diesel.

If you plan on doing any cold weather cooking DO NOT use the Pocket Rocket. The IsoPro fuel does not vaporize very well at temps below 32 (just like a cigarette lighter). I have found them useless at temps lower than that. I would only use the Pocket Rocket in warm tropical environments.

      Regards,
      Joe

I have the MSR Superfly and my friend has the Pocket Rocket. You can use any of the gas canister excepts GAZ canisters. They all (except Gaz) have threaded connector at the top. I routinely use Coleman, Snowpeak, and others, whichever is cheaper. They are great except in winter, though we do bring them for day hikes to heat some warm lunchs. But for extented winter use, get a white gas stove.

          VT and VOLTE

Thanks guys I know the "pocket rocket is not good for low temps. I do not do any overnight camping in the winter anyways! I do day hikes just something about camping in sub zero temps

          Thanks all for the info!!!!

I've got the MSR Whisperlite International. Best stove I've ever owned. So much so I bought a 2nd one.

They are the most versatile stoves I have ever seen or even heard about. Multi-fuel, compact, light weight. Extremely worth it's weight in gold.

Besides, I like to use the white gas to make fireballs in the middle of the night that get people crawling out of their tents wondering what the heck just happened!
