    hat found at Santanoni register

Upon reaching the sign-in register on my way out from the santa's last saturday (2/28/04) I found someone had placed on the register a hat. Storeytime later told me he found it on his way out earlier that day. I emailed Hillman but he didn't reply so it must not be his. If anyone can claim this please PM me.

That is my hat!!! I hope it's still there. A big fat thank you for whoever found it. I never got your email. I'll be up there again this weekend to try and retreive it. This is a great website feature. I thought I would never see that hat again. I've had it for over a decade, and it has been with me for many hikes.

      don't go to the trailhead

hillman1, I wasn't sure if it was wise to leave the hat at the trailhead so I brought it home. Please PM or email me and we can work the details out.

BTW, St. Anthony looks over all of us (Santanoni is the indian name to St. Anthony, Patron saint for all lost things). He's had a few words with me recently. Twice within the past week I've dropped my camera first on Couchee last week and on the way to Allen yesterday. Both times considerate and kind hikers (Storeytime and Ray, and Pin Pin Junior) found and returned my camera. Winter hikers are the best!!!

That is cool... What a co-wink-e-dink

This is me and the hat---is it the one?--I see the picture doesn't show it that well, but it's green and brown, and I think it's known as a sherpa style hat. Sort of like a beanie situation. No visor, and the strings that would have tied it to my head were chewed off by my dog.

Actually, storytime found it, and pvon mailed it back to me without even accepting money to cover shipping for it. I just happen to be a lucky recipient in a world filled with do-gooders who commit random acts of kindness. What a great hiking community we are blessed to have here in the empire state. Three cheers to these two.

I'm sad to report to all those who have watched this thread grow and mature, that the hat I received was not my trusty lid. So I will closely watch for anyone who has lost this one. This one is nice, but it doesn't hold the value of my decade long trusty sidekick. I will have to hit the santanonies to try and retreive mine.

                    I was hopeful, but alas

As someone who has lost more than his fair share of clothing and equipment as well as retrieved some of it due to the kind nature and courtesy of fellow hikers I applaud this section of the Adirondack Forum for giving the hiking community an opportunity to post lost or found items.

Sorry hillman1 that wasn't your hat. I had my suspicion it might not be when I saw your photo. Hope you find yours and someone gets word that their's was found.
