    Plattsburgh NY ???

Judy has a line on a job in the Plattsburgh area. As I am ready to semi-retire, I'm all for a change of scenery, any place closer to the Mts. and lakes would be fine w/ me. I was wondering if there were any members here from the area??

I live a few miles outside of Plattsburgh.

When I attended Paul Smith's College, I took a lot of road trips to Plattsburgh ... I don't remember too much.

          Raising my hand here.

Been in the Burgh since 94 when the wife and I moved from points West. We live in the city right downtown. She's a prof at the local SUNY, I've also got "advanced" degrees so we are familiar with college type towns.

Here's my rambling list of Pros:

Small town life. Benefit of city services - power, fire, police, etc. Proximity to lake, Northern Adirondacks, and major transportation routes. Low crime. Decent city school district. Great road biking once you get out of the city. Great road biking! Lot's of winter activity options close by when there is snow. One hour from High Peaks, Montreal, Burlinton,VT. Close to Point au Roche, Ausable Point, Lake Alice, and many other excellent birding locales. We have a Walmart. Lowes Hardware Store for home improvement fiends. They bake good bread daily at Price Chopper. I can walk around the corner to the beer store.

          On the other hand...

Small town life. A lame college scene (IMHO). Lack of dining options, no quality ethnic type foods. Sucky library. Pedestrian and bicycle unfriendly. Strip mall Route 3 or somewhat still depressed Downtown. Liberal college establishment (see:wife). We have a Walmart.

Anyway, if you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to help or point you to the right place.

Any other questions or anything feel free to ask!
