    Technical "new posts function" question

I have an odd question that I'm not sure can even be addressed here (it may be a software issue). When I come in here, I generally hit the "New Posts" selection in the NavBar and it pop's up all the latest Unread threads/posts since my last visit. It's a great feature, however, on occasion it seems to recycle stuff I already read and lists them as "New Posts" and lists the "last post time" incorrectly.

For instance, in the Keeping In Shape thread, it keeps showing up in the my new posts search with an Last post time of "today, 11:17 AM" by redhawk. When I click it, it goes to redhawk's #89 response (a good one I might add ), which was posted yesterday, 5:12 PM.

Very odd and generally no big deal, unless I'm in a hurry. I've noticed this before and even occasionally see posts that are weeks old, show up as NEW.

I've been around forums for quite some times and I've never seen it happen anywhere else. Anyone ever notice this and do any of you software ner......... errr, I mean experts have a clue?

I think it does this with polls. If someone votes, the thread gets marked as new even if they don't post. That's my guess anyway.

I find the same thing. I have to go to a topic twice to get it not to show as new to me.

Tim, I think Rivet may be correct. I noticed it a while back, and figured that someone may have voted on the poll, and the software interprets that as a "new post," taking me to the last post, even though it may be old and viewed previously.

Maybe Kevin or someone with knowledge of the software can confirm.

For me it's not polls. Dick's post was new, but after I read it once and went back to the web page it was still shown as new. After I read the topic twice it doesn't show new anymore.

Yes...when someone votes on a poll that thread will show up as a new post.

Sometimes it will take a while(15 minutes maybe) for the cookies to reset. If you go to Quick Links above and click on "mark forums read" it will clear all new posts. I wish the software had the opposite function. Sometimes I'll start going through new posts and get pulled away from the computer...when I get back the new posts have been cleared.

I find that after I have read everything I want in the new posts, if I use the quick links drop down and select "Mark Forums read". everything is fine.

If someone does vote in a poll and not post, it will indicate that there is a new post in there when there is not.
