    Northern Lights

I forgot to post this sighting.

Sunday AM @ approx. 2:30am as I brought Buffy ,our dog out for relief,I looked up at the very star-filled crystal clear night sky,I started to see long flowing lights shooting and then wavering back and forth from north to southwest. .....it was a constant show, sometimes growing in size them spasming and dancing back and forth...I was in awe !!!!!Even my dog was wondering why I was staring so long up at the sky and she started to watch the show. ....I`ve seen Northern Lights before ,but they were a greenish color, but these just stayed a transparent whitish color.....Very Cool sighting, was wondering if anybody else noticed them ,but it was a very unGodly time of morning......they lasted about 15-20 minutes, then slowly dissipitated.....

I had seen on a GPS news group that there was quite a bit of aurora activity but I hadn't seen it myself. Always fun to watch in the summer.

Any good recommendations for websites that track potential Northern Lights activity in the ADKs?

There are some links to other good sites on the bottom of the spaceweather homepage.

Someone posted a link to spaceweather.com a while ago on this forum which is how I found out about it.

Interseting article on the harvest moon on spaceweather.com today.

                Not too lucky seeing aurora

I knew of the solar flare and subsequent aurora it would produce. So when we were camping at Lewey Lake we watched from midnight till 4:00am (actually got up every hour) to see if anything was visible. Nothing materialized. We even had our 10 foot boat ready to launch so we could view the sight from the lake. Oh, well. Maybe we'll catch it later this week.

We we're at Lewey Lake from Thursday to Monday last week. I didn't see a thing. What time did you catch the aurora on Saturday night/Sunday morning?

It was around 2:30 am and lasted til about 2:45am or so.....

Very clear evening and the colors were whitish color and they would start in the north and spread towards the southwest and then undulate/dance and waver back and forth ...pretty large bands of light most of the time...then individual rays of light would shoot across every now and then...very entertaining...my dog seemed to enjoy them also!!!!!!then it slowly dissipitated til it was done....but, the night sky was so vivid and crystal clear......the miky way was visible..... I know I just got very lucky ,and happened to bring the dog out at that time

....I forgot to mention,I don`t know if this is related to the Aurora but, just as the lights slowly diminished and were gone a nice shooting star shot across the sky kind of where the light was coming from...really weird ...I thought ,whats next...I better go in the house... ....what a natural entertaining 15 minutes......better than fireworks...

Sorry to say I missed the viewing. I was sure I could catch it if I looked every hour. Maybe I should drink more beer so I'd have to get up every 15 minutes

Thanks for describing the sighting for me. Hopefully, we'll have more chances.
