    Adk Forum Patches

Kevin have you thought of getting patches or window decals made up? I think it would be a great idea especially since your sight continues to grow. Also maybe you could charge an extra buck or two per patch/decal and donate it to an Adirondack charity for trail work or something to that nature.

Its just a thought let me know what you think. If any others are interested post here and give some ideas!

    Thanks,
    ADAM

It's not a bad idea. I have considered it when I first saw the VFTT patches... but I don't know how much demand there would be yet, and in order for it to be economical I'd have to get quite a few made initially...

I'm open to the idea. If you have any more info, fire away .

A couple of people on Thebackpacker.com which I am also a member of just put a thing together and came up with the following patch, mine just arrived today (The forums are called "Trail Talk")

They got 100 patches (which I think was the minimum order) and we ended up paying $3.00 a patch and that included the cost for Lisa to mail them.

It's embroidered and it's a beautiful patch. They are looking into decals too.

        I just checked out TrailTalk.
Do they ever talk about the trail?
looks like a AOL chatroom with no true topic assigned.

I'll just hang here patch or not.

I was trying to show that if circumstances permitted, it would be possible for this foprum to gat a patch. Kevin had expressed an interest in opinions and details.

I wasn't trying to recruit members for the other site.

Since you asked, there are several sections to the site. The trips section is pretty active, allowing people to group up for trips. There are good discussions on gear and lots of info as well.

It is also a very social site. Most of the members have been backpacking with others on the site, often due to the trips section. I also like the chatter that goes on. It ranges from some serious to just plain stupid.

What's really nice is the fact that everyone expresses their opinions, often with some gibes at others that is all in fun. Yet, you don't see any flaming like you do on some sites. It's kinda like meeting new friends and running into old ones at a lean to.

So, I enjoy it. This site is different and I like this one also. After all, variety is what makes life interesting is it not?

            Wasn't trying to imply Hawk.
I like less politics and more info on trips and gear.
            Patches are good.
I have one from VFTT and Whiteblaze.net

Thanks Redhawk, I was suspecting it would require something of an 'investment'.

I'm going to have to evaluate this at a later date. This is, after all, more Jeff's forum than mine .

                "ADK" use.

I was kind of expecting to see some conflict by your use of the adkforumURL , and the forum names here. Do you have a relationship with the ADK? Will you need one? Have you considered renaming this site? Have you considered opening up your site to New England?

Although "ADK" is the logo for the Adirondack Mountain Club it is also the universal symbol now for the Adrondacks. Witness how may stores carry the oval "ADK" decal and how many cars it is on who are not members of the club.

I don't think the Adirondack Mountain Club has a problem with the use of ADK, especially here since there is no claim of affiliation (You might think of posting a disclaimer on that Jeff, just to be safe) and since tere is no money being made.

Since the club has made no attempts to sue the vendors making the oval ADK stickers (although they could be licensed but I don't think so), I assume that they are more interested in doing what they are about rather then get involved in a lot of commercialism and rightfully so.BTW the reason that the Adirondack Mountain Club chose is ADK is because their first choice AMC was already in use by the Appalachian Mountain Club.

                    Actually....

...wasn't AMC used before them both by American Motor Corporation??

                    There's just something about TLA's....

I've talked to Kevin about t-shirts also. I think it would be a great novelty item if nothing else to get t-shirts, decals, bumperstickers patches, ADK Forum the Movie, etc etc......

                          Nope. they used just "AM".

Actually about all you ever saw from them was the "rambler" symbol

I may be able to move forward with this (credit gods have been nice to me of late).

Can someone point me in the direction of the 'badge-maker'?
