    My first Music Video

Hello all. I haven't been around these parts much lately. Fatherhood, teaching and other hobbies have me out straight. Here's one of those other hobbies. This the title track to my first album (self-produced) that I plan to put out this summer...it's called Counting Sheep. My brother made a video for it as a photography project at RIT. Hope you and enjoy and I'd love to know what you all think. -KL

Nicely done, he did a real good job with the video.

You sound good! A nice Nick Drake type of feel. Good driving tune.

Thanks a lot. A Nick Drake feel is such a huge compliment to me...I love his music and that's exactly what I was shooting for.

I'm probably your parents' generation but your music and its video reminded me of what may have come from Syd Barrett (without the accompanying insanity) if he had been born in your generation. Very good stuff. Ageless lyrics.. Music has a historic sound... Hypnotic thematic video...

The video is very well done .

              The music is nicely written.

The recording quality of the music is probably why it's reminiscent of older rock - it's not that well produced. In today's day and age of electronics you can get a really good sound for little to no cost or knowledge (see my signature so see what I do from my computer room on a $1500 total budget, which includes instruments). If you need pointers, feel free to PM me. It sounds like a single mic was used to record a live vocal and guitar performance. This is fine for coffee shop open mic night, but if you want the recording to be taken seriously we'll need to get you introduced to multitracking or connected with an engineer locally. FWIW, from a producer's standpoint, I couldn't even start in 1,000 words or less to list the problems I heard audibly.

Check out what other home recording artists do by visiting www.homerecording.com . There's a MP3 mixing clinic topic and tons of really awesome stuff in there, most of it done with basic tools and understanding of recording principles.

My god, I paid a grand to get that track recorded!!! Kidding, kidding.

I recorded the song in like twenty minutes using the built-in mic on my iMac and using Garage Band. I plugged nothing in. LOL. Double tracked vocals and a single guitar part (though I may have doubled the guitar, but not positive). I also recorded it while my one year old daughter was asleep in the other room at around 11 PM, so I had to sing and play gently and within inches of the monitor (hence the bump on the "Punch" line).

Clearly, this is a rough recording, but I had fun doing it just the same. My brother liked this rough version so much he wouldn't let me do another take. I do plan to clean it up a little for the album, but there is something to be said. Kevin, I'll PM you back and I appreciate your comments. I am one to accept criticism, though my take on recording may surprise you.

Spiral, I deeply appreciate the Syd Barrett comparison. Floyd rules.
