    Aches and Pains

It seems like there is always some ache or pain that comes and goes.
I'm trying to figure out the balls of my feet.
Gel inserts just isn't doing it, but it helps.
The "lightbulb" came on over the weekend so I'm trying something new.
Don't know if it'll work yet but I'm trying to stretch out the arches of my feet by bending my toes way back. It feels great so far but it's early in the game.

I'd really like to "lick" this.

Anyone have any suggestions on this or any other solutions to aches and pains ?

      Morphine?

Actually... try the stretching. Sometime I get this crampy pain right behind the balls of my feet at the start of I hike. I try to ignore it...it seems to stop about 1-2 miles in my hike. Maybe that is because my foot is finally stretched out by that time.

I sometimes get "hotfeet." An almost burning sensation on the balls of my feet when walking around the house bearfoot, AFTER a hike (doens't seem to matter how frequent the time between hikes is). No problem during a hike. It's not on the skin, but something deeper, and goes away after a day or so.

When I get older, I plan to post on this thread a lot.

I had plantar faciitus (muscle cramps of the feet)

hurt like heck MD sent me to a podiatrist who sent me to a physical therapist who hooked my foot to a set of electrodes just like my chiropractor uses. Went to PT twice a week for 6 weeks, spent 1 hr each day alternating between icing and rolling my foot on a tennis ball, and pain subsided. But after a few weeks it started to come back. Mentioned it to my chiropractor and he suggested freezing a water bottle and rolling my foot on it for 10 minutes. Next day pain was subsiding A couple more days and it was gone. Now I always have the bottle in the freezer ready for use.

Not enough time and space to list all the ache & pains.

I'm just glad I can keep going and do what I do.

chairrock- what does the inner bark of a willow tree do ?

Dick- yeah, I didn't think you'd join in yet !

Val- morphine ! yikes ! (keep some handy for the Big Guys back !) during hiking it's OK but during training it's a problem.

Grandpa Paddler--that is interesting...I'll keep that one in mind if this stretching doesn't work.

Little Rickie-eventually, instead of solving all the aches and pains we can undertake to distract each other from them as we hobble along the trail.

I get sore feet at the end of a 12 hour hike too. Maybe you need orthotics.

Check scientific name for willow then check chemical name of Aspirine.

Aches and pains are a way of life for most aging hikers. I train and hike through and around my various debilitations. Frequent applications of heroin seem to take the edge off. After some dandy hikes that require headlamps at both ends in July I need 3 or 4 days of healing time. (I used to call it recovery.)

I am taking a pill called Glucosamine Chondroitin. They help rebuild cartilage and lubricate joints.

I have friends that swear by them but they take a while to get into your system.

Besides my hair and teeth falling out and my eye's going crossed my joints feel pretty good.

Can you still hit the back of the toilet?
