"But it would never be approved. The state would never give up something they?ve invested the time and money into such as the park."

If the tribute is healthy and annual and the state gets bailed out of its financial dilemma it could be approved. It would still be NY, wilderness would be protected, private ownership would be protected, same basic rules only much more money going to improvements, better facilities and no more liability for the state, how could they turn that down?

So with it's reduced tax base, Adirondackia is going to have to raise taxes or reduce expenditures or both and on top of that they will have to raise billions to send as tribute to New York state?

You do realize the reverse it currently true. NYS sends billions to Adirondackia.

In addition to the tribute Adirondackia would have to fund the retirement and benefits for all state workers. This would add up to more billions. Not to mention all the medicare and medicare requirements for this new state.

I say let it ride. It reveals the character of some posters. It helps me qualify some postings as helpful or not.

Not a "new state", same state, just different people in charge. Adirondackia would receive the taxes normally sent to the state. Yes, they would have to fund new employees benefits, but NOT previous workers benefits though some previous state workers would work for the new entity. And yes, The new group would need tribute money so where would they get it? I have some ideas but perhaps other folks on the forum also have ideas. How could a new business entity generate income up and beyond current means? Bond issues? Stock sales? More resorts and attractions? The previous Governor bumped up the advertising budget to attract more tourists realizing a way to increase spending in the Addacks. Any other ideas?

Perhaps ideas to develop parts of the Addacks doesn't represent your best interests. That's okay. However, with so much land available it IS possible to add some new attractions without an industrial complex which could wreck a good thing.

Stay away from high peaks and pristine wilderness, but an IndyCar Race Track, a casino, and trotter track, another frontier land, could bring in millions of tourist dollars and more tourists. How about a castle like Neuchwanstein Germany? I know you don't want to hear of an ATV trail system, but these are all possibilities that private ownership could make available and still keep factories at bay.

"No. Let's not change a thing. We don't want to ruin our park. I like things the way they are."

That's an idea too. Maybe the best idea. Or is it?

Well there goes any reason to want to freely express your opinion. Might as well shut it down now. Dr. Geogymn has just left his imprimatur.
