Always looking for something different to do on our Adirondack adventures, my daughter, Tredhed and I left the Hamilton County Mosquito Preserve and made the short drive to Speculator to see the float plane meet-up. While not a pilot myself, I have a lifelong love of airplanes and things that fly. When we showed up in the late morning, there were eleven planes docked at the town beach.
I enjoyed the classic lines of the float planes and amphibians that were on display. The backdrop of Speculator Mt. and Lake Pleasant was especially appealing. The simple movement of the planes across the water and the noise of the engines as they raced for taxi and take off was appreciated by the modest crowd of onlookers.
In a short time, most of the planes took off on their sight seeing excursions, but not before a few low fly-bys of the beach. Soon enough, the hum of the Continental and Lycoming engines faded and was replaced by the roar of the Harleys on the Rt. 30.
Thanks to Trehed for some of the pictures.
