Average Trout Sizes?

Hello Everyone,

What are the average sizes of the different species of trout in NYS?
Brown?
Brook?
Rainbow?
What would you consider average lenth for each species and what would you consider above average or "trophy" size for each species?

This is regarding trout only, SPECIFICALLY STREAM TROUT.

I know geography can also have something to do with this, so we will say upstate NY and of course, the 'dacks will be the area of interest....

For stream trout (in my experience), 6-10 inches is the average for Brook Trout, and 12 plus inches is worth mention. Now in the spring and fall when pond trout do some moving through the streams, you can get some that are much larger than those that seem to spend all their time in the streams.

With pond trout, there seems to be a much, much greater variation in size, even for adjacent ponds.

A 20" trout gets my attention.

I've yet to catch a brookie that big in the 'Daks from moving water. Someday...

What's your biggest Brookie from moving water vt?
I know 20"+ Browns aren't uncommon in moving waters.
What about sizes of Rainbows in moving water?

I am just trying to get an idea of what an idea "average" size is for each species and what is considered "large" for each species. I know, of course, the sizes of most of the fish I catch (I measure them ) but want to compare notes with other individuals for a more median measure with less error.

I haven't told anyone this until now but if you haven't read my thread about catching and losing the biggest Brook trout of my life from moving waters (See- http://www.adkforum.com/showthread.php?t=13911&page=2) I have some news...I hooked one bigger a week later! 13-14" Brookie!
