Find out where the old wooden dam is, now submerged. Fish near there. The very best advice I can offer is to talk to ranger John Scanlon. He can tell you more about Stillwater than (almost) anyone else, and he is more than glad to offer advice to those willing to listen and follow the rules. Find his number under Region 6 Ranger Roster on the DEC webpage.
