2014 Fly Swap

Well, it's time. The weather isn't cooperating with winter sports. My mind keeps drifting to the brookie ponds. I just re-read Nick Karas' book Brook Trout and Denny Rickards on Stillwater fishing. And I've been busy at the vise to keep sane. Then CT Yankee posted that beautiful set of photos of what he's been tying.

All of that leads up to the launch of the 2014 fly swap. I hope that everyone who participated last year still has their little Cabelas fly box. New participants, please let me know and I'll put in an order.

So, who's in??

Below is a pic from last year's swap:

What sort of time frame are we talking here? tomorrow, a couple of weeks, a month? I'd like to get a materials order in so I can tie them up right.

I'm thinking a month. That's about how long it took us to get it all together last year.

Vtflyfish, thanks for organizing this again. I'll make another contribution, got to think of something. I do like the old time tested patterns.

Oh yes, even if your new to fly tying , don't be intimidated, join in it's a lot of fun, and you'll end up with a bunch of nice flies from these guys.

should have all the necessary goodies to get everything tied up in time. I've literally been waiting for this fly swap since last February when I first found this forum.

VT,

I would hate to be left out of this years swap, had a lot of fun last year not only with the tying part but conversing with each other before ,during and after the swap!! Thanks for taking the time and effort again with running the show!! You did one heck of a job again last year!!

Pretty easy- each participant picks a pattern and ties one each for everybody else. Those get sent to me. I then re-sort and you get back a box with one each of what everybody else tied. So let us know if you'd like to be included.

Last year I bought a bunch of cheap fly boxes, one for every participant. I'll put in an order to cover new participants this year.

Gman, I've included you in the count. I'll come up and plead your case if you're caught smuggling flies across the border.

GG, yer in! Our fly tying nights in Middlebury haven't started up yet. I'll drop you a line when they do.

I've always wanted to do a fly swap and never have so I might as well jump in now! Ive been setting up a new fly desk and have been getting the itch to sit at the vice. If you guys would have me I'd love to be a part of this one.

I wish that I could partake, but due to too much partaking, I can barely tie my own shoes.
Thank goodness for velcro-encrusted tweezers.
