Schroon lake is still ice from shore to shore, Valentine pond still has white ice. The camp eaves are dripping today from a fresh coat of snow last night. Winter is hanging on.

Oxbow Lake near Piseco is still locked up as of Saturday.....that's the lake to watch around this neck of the woods....first to go off.....you can bet others will follow within a week or so of Oxbow. But right now it's no go for ice out fishing! Maybe by the end if April?? This week will be key, I think it's suppose to get up into the 60s.

I was looking at the Arbutus Lake Cam.. looks pretty iced in right now. Hopefully sunny days like today speed things up.

I'm no expert.. I'm just following closely and calling the local outfitters as I have a trip coming up. Seems like a week or more.. probably last week in April or first week in May.. I've got my fingers crossed for the last week in April.

Went on re-con mission today.

Found 2 to 4 inches of ice at first two locations. Beginning to break up in places.
Ran into Ranger who I've been playing phone tag with. Got good info.
Passed several roadside invasive-infested waters iced out.
Aborted next stop due to time constraints but approach looked good.
Aborted next location due to ugly snow.
On final stop found nearly clear trail and fully OPEN water.
Lots of very active aquatic critters along the shoreline, and a few bugs on the surface and in the air.

No loons yet, except for my friend and...

Fulton Chain, Fourth lake still has ice but it's very dark. Seventh & Eight are out. Raquette Lk from rt 28 appears to be out. Blue Mtn Lk is very dark, don't think it will last many more days. Lake Durant still has solid white ice.

The fish can hear you coming

Ice out on Colby, Upper Saranac, Lake Clear, Little Clear and Little Green. St. Regis Pond. Will be out on all lakes by Monday or Tuesday I imagine.
