Getting a tad anxious waiting to try for a few trout thru the ice this year.

I'd like to know what the average costs are per mile for stream restoration or improvement projects. I'm not saying we shouldn't do it, but I'm guessing it's a hell of a lot more money to analyze, design/engineer, and build premier trout habitat than it is to augment suitable habitat with stocked fish. Also, although it wasn't the focus of the article, there are a lot of tangible benefits (money generated by sales of all kinds of goods and services related to our fishing trips) and intangible benefits (personal satisfaction you derive from it) to stocking that the author does not discuss.
I think the key is to: 1) protect our waters and lay down stiff penalties for those that purposefully impact them; 2) provide fishing opportunities for us with stocked fish; and 3) restore or enhance waters that have good potential for becoming better habitat.
