I was actually in lake eaton this past weekend. I did a bunch of kayaking on the lake but didn't do any hiking. Here's a picture from yesteryday.

Lake Eaton campground has been around a long time, therefore, the trail at the far southernly corner, which hooks up with the main hiking trail coming from Endion Rd, get actively used. Two years ago, we snowshoed across the ice on Lake Eaton and up the mountain.

Resurrecting this thread for a question. For winter travel from the Endion Road trailhead, is it worth bringing skis? Obviously the steeper sections on the mountain itself would be better with snowshoes, but is the long flat section smooth enough to be worth skiing? How steep is the initial pull from the trailhead, before the long flat?

Thanks.

The trail is reasonably flat for the first mile or so. It's an old road for much of the way, so skis should work fine..
