Wolf Pond Leanto?
Anybody know if the Wolf Pond leanto is finished yet? Thinking of heading to Boreas Ponds or Wolf this weekend. The leanto might be a deciding factor given the weather forecast.

I saw that were plans to erect a lean to there, in the Unit Management Plan.
That was quite a few years ago... I'm wondering too!!

I just located and reread that UMP...
Does anyone know if the trail will be option #1, #2 or #3? And is the proposed lean to site the actual site? That private inholding currently uses the shoreline as their own private property. I suppose that will need to change when that activity becomes more obvious???

I just found out that once the road is open all the way to Boreas Ponds they will construct a series of LT's around the shore.
![]() Good to know there's beer available now right off Exit 29. ![]()

Yes! There is no working gray matter in Albany. I have nothing against a lean-to per se, but we can't take care of the ones we have now and even the adopters aren't picking up the trash.

We went into Wolf Pond twice last Fall and the trail was only half done with the rest flagged. There was a couple of lumber dumps along the way for bridges over little drainages and a big pile at the leanto site.Anybody know if the trail is completed?

Yeah, I was also a bit surprised a few years ago when I heard about the plans for the Wolf Pond Lean-to. It does seem very close to the road... and I've witnessed countless times the capacity for easily accessible lean-tos to cause problems. I love lean-tos (I've stayed in 201 of them and counting in NY State) but it does seem like a number of them aren't in the best locations to prevent adverse impacts (or depreciative behaviors).
At least with the Cheney Pond Lean-to you have to paddle to reach it. The added logistics of making this happen likely encourages increased respect for the shelter and the surrounding area. |
